Rep. Scott Boyd speaks to the members and guests at the annual banquet
On January 31st, 2004 the members of Millersville Station 6-5 met to celebrate our past year's successes and congratulate the new officers for 2004. The banquet was once again held on the campus of Millersville University at Lehr Dining Hall. Members were greeted by some jazzy background music that set the mood for the upbeat evening. This night continues to be an event that is looked forward to year after year.

Guests from Millersville Borough, Manor Township, Millersville University, surrounding mutual aide departments, and last but certainly not least, Guest Speaker Rep. Scott Boyd were invited to join the brotherhood for the evening.

Numerous awards were handed out throughout the evening. The big winners for the night were:

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR- Jake Albert: Jake, a student at Millersville University, came to us from some York Co. Department that none of us could pronounce right. Since his arrival he has made great strides in his rookie year and has shown up as a GO-TO guy when it comes to doing things the Millersville way. The department is excited to see the great things that Jake, as well as all of the rookies will bring to us in the future. This category was a very tight race as the Recruitment Committee has provided the department with over 15 rookies in the last year to join our ranks.

PRESIDENT'S AWARD - Deputy Chief Mike Hite: Deputy Hite continues to be a leader of the troops both on the fireground as well as around the station. The deputy continues to provide structure to the membership through his authoring of department of SOG's as well as leading the department's Junior Firefighter Program. Deputy Hite continues to provide an excellent example for all members.

CHIEF'S AWARD - Joe Giordano, Jr.: FF Giordano is the MASTER PUMP OPERATOR for Station 6-5. Joe volunteers countless hours training all new pump operators for the department. He also recently became engaged to be married to FF Karen Collins. Receiving the Chief's Award was a very fitting conclusion to FF Giordano's year and we congratulate him for his dedication and wish both Karen and Joey the best of luck in the new year.

FIREFIGHTER OF THE YEAR - Matt Groff: FF Matt Groff has
FF of the Year
unfortuantely stepped down as Lieutenant 6-5-2 for 2004. Since joining Station 6-5, Matt has shown great leadership and has become an example for every one of us to follow. Matt is always trying to turn everything into a training lesson, which serves a great purpose in his real-life scenarios.

Special thanks to the Recruitment and Retention Committee for planning such a wonderful evening. In particular to the hard work that chairman Lynn Anderson put into making the banquet a huge success.
