Millersville's USAR Team has been sharpening their skills in preparation for their July's Certification Test for NFPA 1006. Half the team or 15 team members have been working for two months on this project.

One skill which USAR Teams must practice is moving heavy objects without the use of a crane inside buildings or at a remote site.

One tool to move a heavy object (concrete slab) without the use of a crane, a SAR Team can use a "A" Frame Gantry to move the object.

Head of gantry

Rope Pickett

A two legged pole system used to lift object and then a rope system to swing the poles and weight. This was set up with a rope pickett system to support the haul systems used.

Teams can use 6"x6" timbers or a manufactured one. Par-A-Tech Corp. manufactured the one seen here. Thier's come in a one or two pole system.
