When the residents of Manor Oaks asked us to stop by for a block party, the members of the Millersville Fire Company decided to bring along a challenge for the kids.

Station 1 - Tunnel Crawl
Firefighters setup a Junior Firefighter's Challenge for the kids to run through and test their skills.  Basically, the challenge was designed like an obstacle course and all of the events were related in some way to firefighting.  Each child was dressed in a firefighter coat and helmet to run through the course.

The first station required

kids to crawl through a tunnel to simulate crawling through a smoke filled room.  The second station had kids dragging 50 feet of fire hose across the yard where they came upon the third station, "stop drop and roll."  Next, the kids had to use the homemade Keiser Force (R) machine to move a block of wood with a rubber mallet.  The fifth station required kids to rescue the stuffed  dalmation and

carry him to safety.  Once the dog was safe, kids grabbed 3 buckets, filled them with water, and carried them each to a designated spot in the yard.  The last station, which seemed to be the favorite for the day, required kids to use a hose to squirt simulated flames in the small house to extinguish a fire.

Each child that went through

the challenge received a Junior Firefighter certificate from the Fire Company.  Times were also kept to see how fast each child could complete the tasks.  Congradulations to Christopher R. for finishing with the fastest time of only 52 seconds!
