A Tuesday afternoon a call from Millersville University Police brings an unsual request for assistance. MU Off Miller reported a mallard duck had become stuck in the rock caging, on the island at the Millersville University pond. A student studying, discovered the distressed duck, stuck apparently for quite some time. After calls to ORCA and the Game Commission the fire dept was called upon.

Boat 7-8-2

After arriving and assessing the situation Command added Boat 7-8-2 (an inflatable boat) to assist. Since the island was approx 100+ ft from the shoreline and the pond is known to be 10 ft deep in spots.

However the mallard after seeing the mightly rescue unfolding decided to preform a self rescue and flew away in the sunset, to everyone's disbelief.

The exercise was a good chance for the Blue Rock Fire Rescue companies to again work together (Boat Crew and Rescue Crew).

Crews cleared in 30 minutes.
