An man in his 70s died Saturday night after he fell from the closed Slackwater Road Bridge over the Conestoga River between Manor and Conestoga townships.
Manor Township Police Officer Brian Liddick said police received a report around 9 p.m. Saturday of an elderly man walking across the bridge, which is being repaired and has been taken down to bare steel beams. When police arrived on the scene they pulled the man from the river, Liddick said. Attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. Liddick estimated the man had been in the water 20 to 25 minutes. Police said they weren't sure if the man jumped or fell, or what he was doing on the bridge. Officials declined to release the man's identity, pending notification of his relatives. © Copyright 2009 by MillersvilleFire.com |
