Public Relations A Tuesday afternoon a call from Millersville University Police brings an unsual request for assistance. MU Off Miller reported a mallard duck had become stuck in the rock caging, on the island at the Millersville University pond. A student studying, discovered the distressed duck, stuck apparently for quite some time. After calls to ORCA and the Game Commission the fire dept was called upon.
After arriving and assessing the situation Command added Boat 7-8-2 (an inflatable boat) to assist. Since the island was approx 100+ ft from the shoreline and the pond is known to be 10 ft deep in spots. However the mallard after seeing the mightly rescue unfolding decided to preform a self rescue and flew away in the sunset, to everyone's disbelief. The exercise was a good chance for the Blue Rock Fire Rescue companies to again work together (Boat Crew and Rescue Crew). Crews cleared in 30 minutes.
